What is our Season of Sabbath Practice

Our Season of Sabbath is an 7-week church-wide sabbatical. Modeled after the Sabbath year that God commanded for the people of Israel in Leviticus 25, for a period of 7 weeks we place all ministries and operations on a rest. We meet and worship a little differently.

What do our gatherings look like?

  1. During this season, our services are at 11am instead of the 9:30. We meet later to encourage our community spend the morning resting and practicing delight.

  2. Our meeting space is off the stage and in the round. We teach and worship in a form that enhances community. It is an intimate time of worship, prayer and teaching.

  3. Our time is spend in 3 foundational parts that happen every week:

    • Worship and prayer

    • Teaching

    • Practice

Why do we have this season?

Our Sabbath season has 2 main purposes:

  1. As church leaders, ministries, and volunteers and we take a rest, rejuvenate ourselves, reexamine the way we operate, and envision what we can do. Like the Sabbath year of the OT, we stop intentional function and allow to grow what will grow. We use what we learn to inform how we continue as a church.

  2. As a people (and a culture) one of our biggest struggles is busyness and rest. It’s one of the enemies best weapons. So, during this time, we teach on the rhythms of rest and Sabbath while also implementing a realistic practice.

What are the expectations?

  1. That we all become healthier spiritually, but also in a life. The better we are inside, the better we can reflect God and share Him with others.

  2. That we will come out of this season with new fruit. I don't want to simply flip the switch back on at the end of 7 weeks and everything just go back. We believe that God can do transformative work in this season that we might grow and be enriched individually, in our families, and as a church community.

  3. We expect that the desire for fellowship or study will not end. We encouraging people to meet, study and do things but in an organic way. This is what we expect will inform our ministry growth when we end.
